This is a new EMCH modified magnetic field generating coil with 20 turns used in Magnetic Susceptibility Tests for qualifying equipment to specification Def.Stan. Method RS01. It is built in conformance with the description in that specification and is made of Delrin but wound with 12swg copper wire. When RS01 is being performed, a 1Ω, 100W resistor should be connected in series to monitor current by a suitable meter. (item 267B). However, some aspects of Mil.Std. 462D require a monitoring loop to actually confirm the strength of the magnetic field at a specific point. This monitoring loop can be found under item 317. This particular device has a 10 ampere handling capability producing 1 MilliTesla at 10 amps input or 100uT with 1 amp input.
Specifications:
Electrical:Coil: 20 turns of No 16 SWG wound on a non-conducting Delrin form. Self-Resonant Frequency: >100kHz
Maximum Current: 10 amps short time, 5 amps continuously.
Coil Constant: 5 x 10-5 Tesla/A at 5cm from wire turns.
Mechanical: 2 female banana jacks spaced: 0.75” apart. Nominal Coil Diameter: 12cm (4.75”)
Thickness of Coil: 0.3cm, Weight: 0.45kg. 1 Tesla = 1 Weber/sq. meter = 104 gauss
