The calibrated biconical test antenna 9117 is equipped with the largest cone elements that permit operation up to 1GHz (length tip-to-tip 450mm). With a gain maximum at 230MHz it corresponds roughly to a tuned dipole. At 60MHz and 1GHz the AF is roughly 33dB/m. As a calibration device it will have a fixed phase centre and be omni-directional in the vertical plane. The device is used by us for the NSTL & NSA test for FARs & OATS. This item and a bilog form the antenna combination required for typically 7m x 4m x 3m chambers. The calibration figures supplied are over GP and at a distance of 3 metres. When used as part of a calibration device a 10dB pad is recommended to prevent mismatch.
